- This gastronomic and cultural festival, which highlights the value of local produce and the town’s star products, will feature cooking shows by Miquel Ruiz and Fran Burgos, concerts by Pep Gimeno “Botifarra” and Dani Miquel, and delicious tapas with local restaurant specialties.
Benitatxell, April 5th, 2024. The Mitjafava Fest is once again the main event of the April festivities in Poble Nou de Benitatxell. From the 16th to the 21st, the local fava will be the main protagonist with a program that will revolve around this star product of the town.
The week will start with the Fava Gastronomic Days, scheduled from April 16 to 19. Every day of the week, a local restaurant will offer a succulent dish of rice with fava for dinner: Sunday April 16 at La Trillaora bar (647 60 67 84), Sunday April 17 at La Cumbre restaurant (96 649 32 13), Sunday April 18 at El Raconet de Celeste (662 40 51 52) and Sunday April 19 at Ca Toni Mònica (96 649 36 36 36).
On April 17 and 18, the Library will host two activities at 19:00h. On Sunday April 17 , will take place the activity ‘Bevem Estellés’, a literary experience by the writer and artist Anna Moner that combines wine with the poetry of Vicent Andrés Estellés, and on Thursday 18, will present the book by Just I. Sellés ‘La Marina en caiac. Crònica d’una travessia anticiclònica’. In addition, the audiovisual ‘La Marina: a sea of stories’ will be shown.
The main courses will come on the weekend, with a great feast of gastronomy and music. On Thursday 19, the Social Center will host at 19:00h the conference ‘La cova de les Bruixes: new research’, by the professor of Archaeology at the University of Alicante Feliciana Sala Sellés. From 20:00h there will be a cooking show by two renowned chefs: Miquel Ruiz, from Baret de Miquel in Denia (1 Sol Repsol), and Fran Burgos, from Restaurant La Fava in Benidorm. The event will be presented by Ana Sirvent, nutritionist and co-host of ‘La Cuina de Morera’ on À Punt. In it, the cooks will prepare a tapa with fava poblera. Afterwards, a wine of honor and tapas tasting will be offered to all the assistants. All this, with the musical accompaniment of the duo Tàndem.
On Saturday 20th there will be music, tapas and much more. Throughout the day, from 11.00 to 21:00h, the Mercat de la Terra will be set up on La Pau and Major streets. In the morning, the Farmers’ Association Biomoscatell has programmed, as it is already a tradition, the activity ‘Moscatell with the 5 senses’, a guided route through the vineyards of the town with tasting of its products. To attend it is necessary to register in advance through the telephone 615398238. At 11:00h, the youngest children can have a good time with the storytelling and workshop ‘We are what we eat’, and at 12:30h, the Grup de Danses Morro Falquí and the Colla La Llebetjà will offer a popular dance along the streets La Pau and Major.
In the afternoon the Tardet pobler returns, with music and tapas in the Plaça dels Pesqueres. From 17:00h there will be a toy library service, and the first of the shows, at 18:00h, will be aimed at children, who will have fun with the music of Dani Miquel. After that, there will be an evening with music for all audiences, with concerts by La Trocamba Matanusca (19:30h), Pep Gimeno “Botifarra” (21:00h), La Xe-ranga (22:30h and 00:30h), Niuss (23:15h) and the closing with Dj Cate (01:00h).
On Sunday April 21, the Mitjafava Fest will be accompanied by a great day with a wide variety of activities such as the lunch service provided by the Penya Taurina, the exhibition of tools of crafts in danger of extinction and the largest espardenya in the world or the workshops of esparto and palm tree nails. As it could not be otherwise, the fava will be the protagonist one more day with the Tapifava Festival, in which the bars and restaurants of the town will offer different culinary elaborations with fava poblera at popular prices. At 12:30h Bassduo will perform, and to finish, at 13:30h the prizes will be awarded to the winners of the wine contest, the longest fava and the fava with the most cocks, in charge of the Associació d’Agricultors Biomoscatell.
