• From April 16 to 19, every day, a restaurant in the municipality will prepare this typical dish as part of the Haba Gastronomic Days.

Benitatxell, April 11, 2024. The fava poblera takes center stage next week in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The municipality dedicates a festival to its star product, the Mitjafava Fest, and among the activities of its program are the Gastronomic Days of the Fava.

From Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 April, every day, a restaurant in the municipality will prepare a special menu with a rice dish with fava beans as the protagonist. The most typical in El Poble Nou is rice with fava pelà, a rather thick mellow rice due to the starch of the broad bean that is cooked with dried and peeled broad beans (hence its name) and is characteristic of a few villages of the Marina Alta such as Benitatxell, Xàbia or Jesús Pobre. Formerly, it was cooked for half a day and a dish was saved for the evening, when the farmers who worked from sunrise to sunset returned home and ate “de recapte”.

The gastronomic days will start at the bar La Trillaora (reservation phone: 647 60 67 84) on Tuesday 16, followed by the Restaurant La Cumbre ( 96 649 32 13) on Wednesday 17 and El Raconet de Celeste (662 40 51 52) on Thursday 18, and will close the bar Ca Toni Mònica (96 649 36 36) on Friday 19. To ensure proper service, prior reservation is required.
